Not Ashamed – Romans

This coming Sunday, January 17, we begin our new series in the book of Romans, I am really excited about what God is going to teach us.

In Romans 1:16-17 Paul says he is not ashamed of the ‘gospel.’ As we begin to study Romans, the Apostle Paul is going to talk a lot about the gospel.

Recently Rob Bell, a well-known pastor and authour, was interviewed by Christianity Today and he created a bit of a controversy when he was asked ‘How would you present this gospel on Twitter?’

Here is Rob’s response,

“I would say that history is headed somewhere. The thousands of little ways in which you are tempted to believe that hope might actually be a legitimate response to the insanity of the world actually can be trusted. And the Christian story is that a tomb is empty, and a movement has actually begun that has been present in a sense all along in creation. And all those times when your cynicism was at odds with an impulse within you that said that this little thing might be about something bigger—those tiny little slivers may in fact be connected to something really, really big.”

Rob received some criticism because his definition of the gospel did not mention the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Rob responded with a follow-up definition. The gospel is the counterintuitive, joyous, exuberant news that Jesus has brought the unending, limitless, stunning love of God to even us.

What do you think?

How would you describe the gospel?

Here is my attempt to define wha the gospel is. Let me know what you think. Brian

The gospel is the good news that God has made a way through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ to bring human beings, through faith, back into a love relationship with himself and to transform us into the people he created us to be.

Gospel in a Nutshell————–

JOHN 3:16 – 17
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, tht whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have Everlasting Life.
For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

If I was to tweet the gospel to my friends it would be this. The gospel is the counterintuitive, radical, joyous, exuberant news that Jesus has brought the unending, limitless, stunning love of God to even us.
